![]() This series is how I was eventually introduced to the franchise, as its Kickstarter-backed English dub was brought to Netflix in 2014. The latter of which got its own TV series produced in-house in the late 2000's to allow the game's creators to retain creative control. The French studio Ankama is widely known for their MMORPGs Dofus and its sequel Wakfu. A perfect score is witheld from the cons I felt could have been easily avoided, but it is still a truly great film. It oozes with the love and passion I've come to expect from Ankama, and it shows even more with a truly dedicated work of film. The opening preamble of French text is not accompanied by English subs. The subbed translation misses out on certain subtle pieces of dialogue. Ending scene was relatively anti-climatic, overly happy moment comes at the cost of preceeding a very emotional and important one. Pacing of the film was spotty in some areas, but overall enjoyable. Blood and violence, not extremely gory however. Abundance of risque humor that may not be enjoyed by some and partial nudity Every scene is a feast for the eyes, even those that last just a few seconds. A welcome addition of lore to the franchise So I would most certainly recommend watching those as well. It is however, enjoyed much more when having been exposed to the Wakfu and Dofus series. Wakfu and Dofus have always had some of the best animation in the industry, this is most certainly no different. If you do not come for the story, characters or universe they inhabit, you'll most likely be charmed by the lovable characters, and beautiful art by the end of it. The voice acting and audio is top notch, the animation is smooth, brimming with detail and subtle movements. What passes in France, may not pass elsewhere, nudity is present, albeit not frontal, and there is blood in relatively small amounts, so parents be advised. Despite the film being bright, and cutesy, make no mistake, this is not a film for children in some countries. I did like the characters, but I did feel they substracted a bit much from our main protagonist. My biggest critiques would be the ending being rushed, and the wanton libido between two of the characters Khan and Bakara, they're a humorous duo, but I feel it gets in the way of Joris' story and some of the great scenery done by the artists. The pacing of the film is a bit strange, part of this is due to the fact it's a movie and not a series. Whilst the animation, and the story is truly wonderful. They're some of the most passionate men and women in either industry, and have a considerable cult following.ĭofus - Book I: Julith tells the childhood story of Master Joris Jurgen, the hero of the city of Bonta, it continues off of the Dofus: Treasures of Kerubim animated series and ties in with the Wakfu series special episodes, but does not require any pre-existing knowledge of the franchise to appreciate. So, Kerub tries to annoy Ecaflip to get himself kicked him out of the temple.Another gorgeously animated work from Ankama, and a wonderful way to kick off their first feature length film! A company of animators and game designers, known mostly for their MMORPGs Dofus and Wakfu. Ecaflip refused to let Kerub leave (because the God had grown to really love his son, but he won't admit it). Despite this, Ecaflip forgives Kerub and he becames the God's favourite from then on.Īs Kerub stayed at the temple for a few more years he grew bored and wish's for adventure outside of the temple. In desperation (knowing he will definitely be punished for failing) Kerub creates a fake egg but the trick is resolved by the God Ecaflip. On the way back home, however, the egg is broken by Kerub's clumsiness. Kerub faced many trials and obstacles, but he prevails at the end. (A quest that must be completed in two days.) The quest was to obtain the egg of a bird that lives on top of a dangerous mountain in a dangerous forest. Kerub grow up in the temple, and when he was older enough he decided to take part in the Quest of Two Mornings. But then a disciple of the Ecaflip temple found him and decided to take him in. In his early days Kerub was a homless orphan, he was found alone on a road away from any city. A great part of his early life is exposed in the animated series Dofus: Kerub's Bazaar, where he tells stories of his adventures to his adopted son Joris after having retired in Astrub and opened a store to sell the various treasures he has accumulated. His most remarkable quality is the exceptional luck that has been bestowed upon him by the gods Ecaflip, a luck that has often been the vector of his success and fame.Īs a child, he was raised as an orphan in Ecaflip's temple, unaware of his divine heritage. As a demigod, he has lived numerous centuries and appeared in several media. ![]() Dofus Book 1: Julith Kerub Crepin is an adventurer turned shopkeeper and a demigod son of Ecaflip.
